Proxy Settings
This menu allows you to adjust the proxy settings. Don't know what a proxy is / does? Click here for an explanation.
If your computer is directly connected to the internet (i.e. an analog/ISDN/cable or DSL modem is attached to it), and if Mozilla displays web pages, you will not need to adjust anything. Just leave the proxy settings on their default value ("Direct connection to the Internet").
If, however, Mozilla cannot connect to the web, but your computer otherwise has no problems connecting to the internet, the proxy settings are the most likely culprit.

Manual proxy configuration
The fields that you definitely will need to fill in (uless you are directly connected to the Internet)are HTTP Proxy, SSL Proxy(for secure connections that are e.g used for online shopping), and FTP Proxy. The easiest way to get the necessary proxy settings is asking your admin or copying the proxy settings from another program that connects to the Internet. Make sure you get the address (e.g. proxy.yourcompany.net) and the port number (e.g. 1234).

No proxy for:
Ok, so now you can connect to the Internet, but Mozilla no longer diplays web pages on your Intranet (i.e. your company's internal network). The reason is quite simple: While a proxy will let you connect to external sites, it is normally not used to access internal pages. If you have the aforementioned problem, simply enter your company's / school's domain in this field (e.g. .yourcompany.net). Do not enter "www" or anything else before the "dot". This way, all subdomains like "office.yourcompany.net" will also be accessed directly, i.e. not through the proxy.

Automatic proxy configuration URL:
If your network has an automatic proxy configuration script, you are in luck. Simply enter the URL for automatic proxy configuration, and Mozilla will automatically "know" which addresses to access via the proxy, and which to access without a proxy. Once again, ask your admin.
